Build Your Own PLM Process Training Module

If you have users who need to learn new custom PLM processes or other complex software process workflows, you may want to offer them interactive custom eLearning content. If that’s the case, we can help you configure your own set of training modules. Topics, Components, Design Preferences, and Output Formats are all configured to provide the necessary information to begin planning the development of the module.

TOPICS

This option involves identifying the topics or processes that need to be covered in the module. At this stage, the learning objectives do not need to be fully defined, nor do the roles. Typically, when we work with customers, the learning objectives and roles are fully defined as we have the opportunity to review or learn more about the custom process. In the context of PLM, topics could include:

  • Orientation and Navigation
  • Searching
  • Routes and Tasks
  • Document Management
  • New Part Release
  • Revision of a Part
  • Bills of Materials Management
  • Supplier Management
  • Etc.

In the context of any process, the text in the boxes of a process flowchart can represent this list of topics.

COMPONENTS

This is the time to consider which components would be most effective for the specific topic or process, ensuring that the learning objectives are met, knowledge is retained, and end users are engaged. The components that can be included, along with their configuration options, are shown below:

  • Content Slides (quantity and how much interactive content is required)
  • Videos (quantity)
  • Practice Software Simulations (quantity)
  • Quiz / Knowledge Check Questions (usage and quantity)
  • Closed Captions (Yes or No)
  • Text-To-Speech Audio (Yes or No and choice of voice)

An example of the components of a module are shown in the image below.

DESIGN PREFERENCES

Design preferences include the following options, configured as either Yes or No, with the exception of Resolution:

  • Standard playbar
  • Custom sidebar
  • Custom playbar on bottom
  • Use of company standards and branding for fonts, logos, colors, images
  • Resolution

More information on design preferences (with examples!) are available here:

OUTPUT FORMATS

You can choose to host your eLearning on a web server using the HTML output, in a Learning Management System (LMS) either in-house or hosted by us through our ProductivityNOW LMS. You can also opt to provide a PDF handout or job aid for reference purposes to your users. If you plan to use the modules for instructor-led training, instructor presentation slides can also be delivered. One or more of these output formats, shown below, can be selected:

  • HTML
  • SCORM
  • PDF handout or job aid
  • Instructor presentation slides

Not only do the configuration options for Topics, Components, Design Preferences, and Output Formats provide the necessary information to plan the development of the module, but they also give us the details needed to provide a quote for the eLearning development if you'd like to collaborate with us on a project. If so, please contact us at training@rand.com.
