It never fails that in every introductory class I hear a student say, “I can’t find my tree.” By default, the specification tree is displayed on the left-hand side for parts, products, drawings and is a feature that is used very frequently. Obviously, we never want to “lose” the tree, but sometimes it can happen. First let’s go over some basics when controlling the specification tree.
Scrolling the tree: You can move the tree up and down the viewing area by scrolling with the wheel of your mouse. If you do scroll the tree up or down out of the viewing area, you’ll notice a lilac vertical bar show up on the left-hand side of screen.
Temporarily hide the tree: You can tell the specification tree to temporarily be hidden by hitting F3.
Tree text size: You can change the tree text size by holding down the control key and combining that with scrolling the mouse wheel. Be aware that there is a maximum tree text size but there is not a minimum text size.
If you ever find yourself not being able to find the tree, here’s a trick. Click the axis in the bottom right corner of the screen (this tells the software to focus on the tree instead of the model), then click Fit All In from the view toolbar. Make sure to click the axis system in the bottom right when finished to focus back on the 3D model.
