In this post, we’ll be focusing on the exciting and immensely useful tool: the Boolean Remove tool. This tool can be a game changer, enabling you to subtract material from a solid body using another solid as the “tool”. It’s akin to sculpting, but in the virtual world!
Follow these steps to understand how to subtract the volume of the cylinder from the block using the Boolean Removal tool.
Step 1:
In the Part Design work bench, navigate to the Boolean Operations dropdown menu and click on the Remove tool.
Step 2:
A dialog box will appear. Here, select the ‘Main Body’, i.e., the solid body from which you want to remove material. In our case, it’s the block.
Step 3:
Now it’s time to select the ‘Tool Bodies’. This will be the solid that we subtracted from the Main Body. For this tutorial, we will select the cylinder. You can also see what the result will be by clicking on the preview button.
Step 4:
Once you’ve made the selection, simply hit the ‘OK’ button. And voila! You’ve successfully executed a Boolean Remove operation!
Now, it’s important to remember that the Boolean Remove tool is not limited to simple shapes and forms. It can be used to carve out complex structures in your design as well. All it takes is a little creativity and a lot of practice.
I hope you found this tutorial useful and are eager to try out the tool in your projects. If you have any questions or would like to explore more CATIA V5 features, feel free to reach out. Happy designing!
