In CATIA, laws enable you to vary the value of a parameter. They can be found in several dialogue boxes within the GSD workbench. I will highlight the different types of laws in this blog post with a parallel curve.
The Law Definition dialogue box has four types of laws: constant, linear, S-type, and advanced.
The last type, advanced law, allows for the user to define their own transitional profile. Say for instance that I would like to start my parallel law at 50mm and end at 90mm but I would like to define the shape as follows: linear for about 1/3rd of the transition, constant for the middle 1/3rd, then follows a spline curve for the last 1/3rd of the transition. To begin, you need a linear reference line (the length of the line is arbitrary). For this example, a straight reference line was created on the xy plane. Next, a separate sketch was created on the xy plane. This sketch is used to define the shape of the advanced law.
Now you are ready to create the advanced law.
