Custom PLM Training Development Part 3: Storyboard Development & Review

This blog is Part 3 in the “Custom PLM Training Development” blog series. If you would like to review parts 1 and 2 you can access them via the links below.

As each blog is released, they will be available here:

  1. Initiation/Proposal/Kickoff
  2. Planning
  3. Storyboard Development and Review
  4. Module (or Chapter) Development
  5. Review, Publish and Delivery of Final Deliverables
  6. Follow-up Activities

This blog addresses the storyboard development for each module/chapter. The storyboard lays out, in order, the components to be developed with details depicted. The client reviews the storyboard, provides any feedback, and approves the storyboard before any module/chapter development begins. As a result, a change request can be avoided since the storyboard provides a well-defined development plan.

The activities associated with developing a storyboard are shown below.

  • Set up orientation sessions to ensure custom processes are understood and that preferred data objects to use are communicated. The demos may include a client’s custom processes regarding Engineering Change Requests (ECRs), Engineering Change Orders (ECOs), New Product Introduction, Problem Reports, Revision of a Part, Bill of Materials management, etc.
  • Confirm learning objectives and components for each module. For details on the components to consider for eLearning, you can review the following ASCENT blogs:
  • Create storyboards showing the components that will be created. Note that this can also be a collaborative development effort with certain components being provided by the client such as videos and video transcripts, if applicable.

The image below displays the details on the orientation session as well as the storyboard creation and review process.

Once all the storyboards have been approved, the go-ahead to start development is provided. The next blog, Part 4, covers the Module Development and Review stage of the project.
