CATIA Tip: Display Current Scale in Parallel Mode

January 27, 2026 Trisha West

In this CATIA Tip under a minute, we’ll take a closer look at an option that will help you visualize the real size of a CATIA model. First, let’s find where this option is located.

·       For CATIA V5, go to:

ToolsàOptionsàGeneralàDisplayàVisualizationàTurn on the “Display current scale in parallel mode”

·       For CATIA V6, go to:

MeàPreferencesàCommon Preferencesà2D 3D View DisplayàVisualizationàVisualizationàTurn on “Display current scale in parallel mode”

Now, what does it do? Take this basic rectangle pad (30x10x10mm).

With the setting turned on, you will see a value displayed in the bottom right corner of your CATIA model screen. Here my scale number is 1, which means the size of the model physically shown on my screen is true to size.  Once I zoom into the model, I start to see the number increase. Below, the number displays approximately 5 meaning that the size displayed on my monitor is about 5 times larger than it’s true physical size. Turn on this setting to quickly be able to get a feel for true model size.

Special note for V6: This option can also be used in CATIA V6 (the number value tends to be on top of the robot (bottom right corner) but if you have the specification tree width display set all the way to the right side of the screen, this scale value will be pushed out of the display area. So, if you do not see the number, try pulling the two vertical lines to the left and you should be able to see it.
